One down, 9 to go.
« on: November 20, 2017, 05:32:43 AM »
Popped a little spike horn yesterday for the stew pot. We can have 10 deer per year per person so gutting and skinning gets old fast.
This one took a CCI STD 22lr to the Mellon at about 100 feet.
Savage MKII FVSR, suppressed.
Staple gun quiet.
9 more to go. I make jerky and give lots of meat to hunters for the hungry.

No tagging stations here.
We call 1 800 I got one.
(Seriously)

Nice, I know you are not in ME, Where are you again? I came from NJ originally and we could get 13 a year there if you got all your tags

The season is young and best of luck on the other 9

Why does it look like you are cutting the back? Just curious if you guys do something different down there? Are you just taking out the backstraps?

Too warm to hang them in this area of the country.
Deer are also quite small.
We don't field dress, no reason if your not going to hang it.
I get the backstraps (about to zip it open in the pic)
Then cut the hind quarters off the bone, plus the heart.
I don't bother with the front shoulders.
So little meat on them.

Thats what I suspected from the pic.
So you would just leave the rest for the coyotes?

Opossums and buzzards.
Coyotes have stiff competition around here!

Didnt know Opossums would eat a carcass. I assumed they were herbivores. We have been seeing them around here lately.
